In the Forest

Jadis padded through the lush green forest, enjoying the cool shade of the leaf-green trees. She relished the softness of the grass on her paw pads and wondered how the other packs lived without such comfort. Jadis twitched her ears in joy as a butterfly landed on her nose for a few split seconds before flying away to suck nectar out of a flower. Jade turned around to see a small patch of withered-up tulips. Concentrating hard, Jadis made them heal and watched as the stems became green and the buds became red, blue, and purple, instead of dull brown. With satisfaction, Jadis turned away and headed over to a small stream, saying "Hello," to a passing bird. As she lapped up the icy cold water and lay her paws in, Jadis had the happiness of a perfect day.

Just as jaddis was contemplating how well her day was going there came a low unearthly growl resounding from the forrest around her. It was a noise that sent chills through her spine and left no doubt that it's source could not be of this world

Jadis gasped in shock as a growl surrounded her, chilling her spine. Suddenly eyeing Cordath, she bounded over to him. "Do you know what that was?" she barked.

Cordath stumbles into the open some bushes and you notice he is heavily wounded struggling to walk he almost collapses. Patches of ice armor cover severe tears and cuts to his body and mangled front right leg a massive claw is imbedded in his side which he had somehow torn out of the beast with his own body. "It's... Injured" he manages to say "I need a healer"

Jadis gasped. "B-but I'm no healer!" she yowled. Not knowing what else to do, Jadis grabbed some leaves, cobwebs, and marigold in her jaws and padded swiftly but carefully over to Cordath. She lay everything down and grasped her teeth around the claw, yanking it out and wincing as he howls in pain. She quickly put the leaves, cobwebs, and marigold on him until the bleeding stops. When it does, she breathes on them and they scab up into scars. Jadis padded over to a poppy bush and grabbed a few seeds, laying them in front of Cordath. "Eat these," she huffed. "I did the best I could."

Cordath grits his teeth and forces himself to stand "son of a whore, it got away..." He looks at the direction it had retreated in, in no condition to pursue, and certainly in no condition to fight even if he could "thank you..." He turns to jaddis " I must speak to your pack leader'

Jadis eyed the male. She wasn't a shaman and had no idea if what she'd done was right or wrong. At least he seemed to be feeling better. "Whatever did it look like?" she whispered. She then dipped her head. "Oh, yes, of course," she signaled with her tail for Cordath to follow her.

Cordath limped after her keeping up as best he could "something like a wolf, mixed with something unatural, I can't really describe it, but it was bipedal and had huge claws..."

Jadis slowed down when she saw that Cordath was limping. Letting him lean on her shoulder, she carried on, listening to his description of his attacker. "Oh, dear," Jadis whined, afraid for her fellow pack mates. "Did it seem to be attacking you on purpose? Or do you think it thought you were something else?" she asked, hoping that the creature wasn't a bloody-pawed wolf murderer.

  As they neared the camp, the pack leaders, (I'm just pretending this, there is no FP Alpha) Embress and Gelarth, bounded out into the clearing. "What are you doing with an IcePack wolf?" Gelarth growled. "Take it easy, Gelarth. The wolf is hurt," Embress said soothingly. "I'll go fetch the shaman," Gelarth said, narrowing his eyes. Jadis, with the help of Cordath, told Embress what had happened.

Cordath nodded in thanks and sat down "I am Cordath, newly appointed alpha of icepack "I was bringing warning of an ancient and demonic creature terrorizing the "that might be a bit redundant now though... Anyway we seem to be dealing with an ancient demonic force that nearly wiped out the clans a few centuries ago" he turns to jadis "do you still have the claw?"

Jadis watched her leaders' and shamans' expressions as Cordath told them the story. "Yes, I do," she barked, dropping the thing on the ground.

Cordath gestures to the foot long claw "that will shred most wolves in half the first hit, fortunately its slashes wouldn't cut through my armor..." He pauses for a moment "in light of this creatures return we are holding a meeting of the packs in icepack territory we would like to invite fauna pack to attend?"

Jadis, not knowing what else to do or say, just watched silently. "We will keep our eye out for this... meeting," Gelarth huffed. "Meanwhile, go with Kurin here to the shaman den. She will fix you up, and Jadis can take you back to your territory tomorrow," when he was finished speaking, Gelarth padded back into the camp, Embress on his heels. Figuring that she had better go hunt, Jadis raced away, leaving Cordath and Kurin to themselves.

Cordath nodded and limped after kurin in a state a lesser wolf would not have been able to stand never mind move in "a pleasure to meet you" Cordath greeted the shaman, he is clearly very calm and unagressive for an icepack wolf

Kurin nodded kindly. "I am sorry about Gelarth," she barked. "He is usually like that. We FaunaPack wolves just have to learn to deal with him. He does, after all, protect us..." Kurin trailed off. "Anyways. Come on, I'll fix you up." Kurin lent a hobbling Cordath her shoulder so that they would go a bit faster to her den.

As Jadis stalked through the forest, she thought about what had happened. "Oh, I do hope Cordath is all right," she murmured to herself. "It is quite scary, having a beast roam the forests..." she shuddered.

Cordath shrugged gratefully taking her shoulder and the relief of having something to lean on slightly. "It's not an uncommon mentality" he says not overly offended by it. He walks with the shaman to her hut and allows himself to collapse "that beast is savage as a berserk bear and twice as fast..." He murmurs

Kurin whipped her head around. Gelarth is not mental," she growled. "He simply just has a bad attitude." As Cordath collapsed to the ground, Kurin went into a small crack that opened up into a half-circle room full of herbs. She grabbed a few and returned to her den, fixing up Cordath. "This... claw," she barked. "Is the claw of a Sharlaw."

"I didn't accuse him of being mental, most alphas are protective and proud of their people as he is, and I just walked in and told him an evil has risen that he cannot hope to match, I thought he took it well, as well as I did anyway" he shrugged "mentality is just a general term for referring to one's state of mind, be it protective or easy going, it's not calling him crazy..." He explained not intending to offend anyone "oh, and also what's a sharlaw?" He asks

"Sorry," Kurin apologized. "I guess you, of all people, understand, since you're an Alpha too." she sighed. "Gelarth has acted like that ever since... well, ever since his first son died," Kurin whispered. "He misses him a lot. After all, Giovani would have succeeded him... I guess Gelarth thinks nobody else is worthy the position." she wondered if she had said too much about the FaunaPack Alpha. Oh well, it was bound to get out someday. "A sharlaw is what attacked you. They're massive, brown creatures with a bit of green and the sharpest claws you've ever seen. Sharp claws like these." Kurin gestured to the claw that had been stuck in Cordath's body.

"Fits the description" he says with a nod "managed to take off one of its arms but it grew another." He recounts

Kurin nodded. "They easily regrow their limbs, but only if you tear off one," she said. "Which it is highly recommended to fight with others against them. Sharlaws are very powerful, even more powerful than Purripes, which are the black, purple-striped creatures you and Astridd have been seeing," she informed him.

"Those things are adorable" Cordath remembers thinking back to the creature. "One let me pet it." He commented having no idea how dangerous they really are

Kurin gasped. "You touched one!?" she exclaimed, her eyes wide and her fur bristling. "Those things are deadly. They can take on five wolves at a time and still win!" Quickly, Kurin looked Cordath over to make sure a Purripe had done something to him. "Either you're mistaken or it was young. Purripes are bloodthirsty killers. Never, ever go near them." she put a bit of horsetail on a few cuts on Cordath's forelegs. "You're good to go health wise," she told him. "Sleep in here tonight. Go fetch something from the fresh-kill pile."

When Jadis was done hunting, she healed a few dead herbs before carrying her load back to the camp. She decided that she would take a piece of fresh-kill over to Kurin's den to see how Cordath was doing. "What a day," she murmured to herself.

Cordath shrugs and stands up "the little guy was adorable, looked like the mother had been killed though." Cordath shrugged and stood up "I'm going to track down that sharlaw and finish it...." He boldly stated the possitively terrible, terrible idea;

"What? No!" Kurin gasped in astonishment that one could have such an idea. "Sharlaws are twice as bad as Purripes. You're lucky that one didn't slice your neck off!" She flattened her ears in anger. "I know I have no right to hold you back, but as Lead Shaman, I'll call the guards in to make sure you don't go kill yourself off."
